With the first race of the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series in his rearview mirror, Jacob Gomes is ready to look forward to his next race at Stockton 99 Speedway. The high expectations and goals the Gomes Motor Sports team set for the 2013 race season meant a top ten finish “just wasn’t good enough”, according to Jacob.
“We were a top five car, no question”, said Gomes. “We were fast in practice and we had a good qualifying lap (Q-5 and a new track record)”.
While the car was a little tight at the drop of the green flag, it continued to get better as the race continued. As Jacob was making the pass for third place he got tangled with another car. The SRL officials sent the #16 car to the back of the pack and it’s from there that he raced his way back to an eighth place finish.
In addition to being the first race of the SRL season, it was also the first race on the all-new surface at Madera Speedway.
“The track was definitely faster. It’s a one-groove track right now but it’s going to keep getting better and I’m looking forward to my next race at Madera”.
In the meantime, Jacob, his crew chief Dad, and all the returning team crew members are working together to get the #16 Sunnyvalley Smoked Meats Chevrolet back in victory lane. Jacob will be racing at Stockton 99 Speedway in the SRL series on April 6th.
